Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9 released!

As the founder and CEO of Emsisoft, I’m especially pleased to announce our latest product release today. It has been an exciting year of hard work with a growing team of developers, and we hope that this update will exceed all of your expectations.

With the largest overhaul of the user interface in 7 years, we’ve produced a modernized and more intuitive version of our leading product that will ensure enhanced performance for years to come. Although the visual changes are most noticeable, Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9 also has several new innovations under its hood, to provide advanced protection against increasingly frequent and complex Internet attacks.

overview

New features in detail

Improved usability: Our primary goal is to provide complete protection against viruses and other malware, with a focus on maximum efficiency in every respect. Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9 is not an overloaded, sluggish suite. It is fast and lean, and focuses on what is most essential: keeping your PC malware free. The completely revised user interface in version 9 reflects this intention and has been optimized for Windows 8. The new design arranges the main functions with corresponding shapes and coloring, making them quickly accessible and easy to understand – especially for first-time users. We believe that anti-malware software has never been easier to use, and yet we also think that Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9 will be highly valued by computer professionals worldwide, for its flexible configuration and advanced capabilities.

Faster scans with better detection: Our dual-scanner strategy has been tried and tested for many years, and it has successfully won countless comparatives and awards from renowned anti-virus test labs like AV-Comparatives and Virus Bulletin (VB100). This malware scanner has been improved in the new version of Emsisoft Anti-Malware as well, so that even the latest threats can be safely and thoroughly removed. Additionally, we have greatly increased scanning speed.

Three-layered real-time protection: This is where Emsisoft has always proven to be ahead of the competition. Layer one is Surf Protection, which blocks browser-independent access to dangerous and fraudulent websites, to prevent you from downloading malware. Layer two is a dual-engine file guard, which automatically scans all new and modified files – including those on newly attached USB data storage devices – using over 12 million signatures. Layer three, Behavior Blocker, is our highlight. Behavior Blocker uses behavioral analysis to detect brand new threats based on derivative behavioral patterns. With version 9, Behavior Blocker’s cloud-assisted detection performance has been massively improved, resulting in fewer false positives and the possibility for more accurate malware classification.

Hundreds of detail improvements for a better user experience: It’s the simple things in life that bring us joy. That’s why we’ve always listened and responded quickly to our customers. The customer feedback we received during the past year allowed us to incorporate hundreds of improvements into Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9. I’d personally like to thank each and every one of our countless beta testers for their hard work and feedback.

Hello! I am interested in your news, but I do not understand English. If it is possible to come to the Russian news, I would be very grateful to you. Sincerely, Alexander. Russia, Volgograd

Now where we can check and see the number of actual Malware signatures, version of Emsisoft Engine and BitDefender Engine? As they disappeared from the main window and cannot be found anywhere else. How come that everytime there comes any new version of something nowadays (software, www sites layout and so on) then is always needed an unsolicited

hunt for previously easily available/visible issues. Emsisoft anti-malware under the new layout seems to be kinda one of them (even if the most of options and issues are still easily available).

    • Christian

Please move your mouse over the label “Software is up to date” at the overview panel to see the number of signatures. If you are on a full version, close the “Renew for free” label and then move mouse over the version label to see engine versions.

New Emsisoft can not fit into the screen netbook resolution of 1024×600. What to do?
Buy another antivirus? You will return for your money Emsisoft?

    • Christian

If you’re unhappy with the new version, please contact our customer support for a refund. The new version requires a minimum of 1024*768, but we might add some improvements to support 1024×600 in one of the upcoming builds too.

I love the products Emsisoft, and I think they are the best! If there is a fix for 1024×600 screens, then gladly stay with Emsisoft.

Apparently the Firewall is not included, any idea about having the integrated version available? Thank you.

    • Fabian Wosar

Emsisoft Internet Security which is the integrated Anti-Malware and Firewall product your are looking forward to is still in testing as it doesn’t meet our own quality expectations yet. We will release it as soon as we have the last kinks and issues ironed out :).

Hmm.. I thought that in ver.9 Online Armor and Anti-Malware will be integrated in one GUI. Now I see new GUI for Anti-Malware plus same old Online Armor. I was mistaken?

    • Christian

In a few weeks we will launch a new product called Emsisoft Internet Security, which is based on Emsisoft Anti-Malware + integrated Firewall. It’s still in beta testing though.

      • pr0x1ma

        Thank You.)

      • nuncius

Just please do not join your firewall with Emsisoft Anti-Malware. Your Anti-Malware is handy top product in stark contrast to the terrible Online Armor.
I have already second time license for OA – recently bought under Emsisoft Internet Security Pack – and fortunately one of the main advantages is that i can turn off the Online armor completely and use only the free-standing Anti-Malware.
Everytime after few months (experiences years ago and also last year, different PCs and OA versions) OA randomly decelerates the internet traffic and also even brakes and freeze the whole system (hard-reset of whole system is then the only option).
Therefore i am using OA only rarely – at first I turned off its Program guard for good (partial improvement of slowing up) then the Web shield (another improvement) and finally the Firewall itself and also the OAsrv.exe .
All these components causes any sort of trouble. I turn on the OA only when I’m using internet banking, turning on its firewall under banking mode for short time.
It also encounters worse results than windows 7/ 8 firewall so gererally it is considerable untuned, weakly effective and bothering product for whole years.
So please do not integrate it into one product and leave customers of Internet Security Pack the choice, when they notice such OA behavior to turn it off. Otherwise they would be obliged to use it (for 1-2-3 years), or to let go also the bounded Emsisoft Anti-Malware when turning off whole new Emsisoft Security Pack.

First, congratulations on the unobtrusive update to V.9. Only the new notification icon suggested there was something unusual happening!
Second, first impressions certainly do support your claim of increased scanning speed, so thanks very much.
Third, I do wish the industry (and users alike) would make more of an effort to distinguish between core Windows 8 and its optional touch-screen user interface style (Metro, as was).
The “new” UI is a distraction for traditional (read “serious”?) PC users and impediment to efficient working, even if it has benefits for learners or those interested mainly in entertainment-type applications.
Your new layout is perhaps better for touch-screens but (thankfully) not too much worse for me. I do think, however, the active top menu could be highlighted more clearly than by a faint and dirty grey over-bar!
Fourth, a V.8 problem that hasn’t gone away in V.9… between starting an update and beginning to receive any downloadable files, my Core i7 virtually freezes. When I’m using a slow (mobile) connection this can be over 5 minutes and because processor usage is minimal there is little to explain the lack of responsiveness. In V.8 there was at least an “updating” icon animation, but I think even this has gone in V.9. Any ideas, please? Network issue?
Finally I look forward to seeing the integrated interface including OA. However I am concerned about the wisdom of controlling two completely different functions from one front panel.
    Regards
    Paul

I’m very interested, the only thing I want to know is how much lighter the software is compared to the previous version (System Impact)?

    • Fabian Wosar

“Lightness” is very hard to measure. We managed to reduce the memory usage by around 10 – 15% depending on the enabled features. We also reduced scan times by 10 – 50% depending on the type of hardware you use and the files you scan. Keep in mind though, that these values are highly dependent on your hardware. So unfortunately the only way to tell how much lighter it is on your system is to give the trial a whirl on your system :).
