Emsisoft earns VB100 in December 2019 tests

Virus Bulletin is a security information portal and certification body based in the UK. The organization regularly conducts certification tests designed to measure the protection capabilities of antivirus software.

We took part in the latest round of tests and we’re happy to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware once again earned VB100 certification!

What is the VB100?

The VB100 is a certification awarded to endpoint security products that meet a certain standard of quality regarding malware detection.

The tests are performed on physical computers or virtual machines with specifications similar to those you would find in a typical business environment. Each test is performed on two different systems, one running Windows 7 Pro N 64-bit, the other running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Each security product is installed on a clean version of Windows and then exposed to thousands of malicious samples curated by various researchers and organizations. The products are also subjected to a subset of 100,000 clean files taken from a set of 400,000 non-malicious files harvested from legitimate software downloads.

The security solutions are tested using their default installation settings and are given full Internet access throughout the tests.

To achieve the VB100 certification, a security product has to meet the following criteria:

• Detect at least 99.5 percent of malicious samples.
• Generate no more than 0.01 percent false positives.

The results

Emsisoft Anti-Malware breezed through the tests, detecting 99.9 percent of the 2,472 malware samples and generating zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was once again awarded the VB100!
